Kitchens are arguably the most often used room in your house. For this reason, a nice expensive kitchen is often what is most desired. But what happens when you cannot afford that? How can you save money and still be comfortable? How can you make cheap kitchens nice?

One of the first things to think about is the space you have. If you are buying a house, the rule tends to be that the larger the kitchen, the more expensive the house. This is because small kitchens are a nuisance. They do not have to be, though.

When it comes to space, there is tons of wasted space above your head. Thankfully, many companies have got the idea of over-your head shelving which hangs well within arm range, but well away from any distance where you could bump your head. Most people put these over their kitchen islands, where they would not be walking anyway.

Shelving on the walls is another under used storage system. Instead of decorative framed pictures, which really help no one, why not put up a few sturdy shelves? They are probably cheaper than the artwork but can make your kitchen feel twice as big.

Doing this will also help you be more organized. When you can see something neatly in front of you, time will be saved in the preparation of a meal if you do not have to rummage through the cupboards for something. It can also make your kitchen appear brighter and more like a home.

Flooring is a pricey item for people who build or refinish houses. Wood or stone on the floor is a beautiful and elegant look, but who can afford it? Get laminated tile in a good quality wood or stone pattern. Few will be able to tell the difference and it will save you a ton of money and repairs. It is much harder to break something so elastic as laminate flooring than it is to chip stone or dent wood.

There are plenty of ways you can cut costs in a kitchen. You can get cheaper cupboards with cheaper handles. Provided the cupboards are nicely painted (which you can do yourself), who would ever know? Your kitchen table can be extremely low quality. You can merely cover it with a table cloth when company comes. It is also a good chance for you to use candles (not when actually cooking, though) and save a lot of money on your light bill under the pretense of ambiance.
